A Night at the Opera
Sarah: Hi Michael! Didn’t you say your daughter has a hobby that’s different than most teenagers? I remember you said she loves opera.
Michael: Oh yeah, she’s crazy about opera. She takes her weekly lessons from this retired Italian opera singer.
Sarah: Is she a natural soprano?
Michael: Yes, she is. In fact, right now she’s working on The Magic Flute (Arrival of the Queen of the Night Aria).
Sarah: Wow, impressive! Would love to hear her sing sometime. Well, I’m asking you all this because I heard that The Metropolitan Opera’s free Summer HD Festival is returning, with screenings of 10 productions from the company’s Peabody and Emmy Award–winning The Met: Live in HD series. It offers opera lovers a chance to see and hear some of the Met’s greatest-hit productions and opera’s biggest stars. So your daughter may be interested in going.
Michael: Oh most definitely. When is this?
Sarah: The screenings will be shown outdoors in Damrosch Park on eleven consecutive nights, August 27–September 6.
Michael: Thanks so much for the info. I know it’ll make her very happy.
Enjoyed the conversation very much!
A nice introduction to opera
Thank you so much for your continuous support!
喜欢 Four fine fresh fish for you!
Another great episode! I look forward to the podcast every Wednesday.
For first time opera listener, let me recommend Carmen by Bizet. You will find every song already familiar.
Many thanks! For sure Carmen is a great choice!! Another one could be La Traviata by Verdi. The famous drinking song “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” is from it😁
