Happy Thanksgiving
Sarah: Michael, remind me: who first held the Thanksgiving celebrations back in the days of the colonies?
Michael: I believe that it was the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag who shared their autumn harvest feast, which was later acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.
Sarah: I see. But it wasn’t until sometime during the Civil War that Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November, correct?
Michael: That’s right! So are there any Thanksgiving rituals you and your family keep?
Sarah: When the kids were young, we always went to the parade in town. This year, my sister is here now, so we’ll have a big family dinner. And turkey of course. And how about you?
Michael: I used to play in a marching band.
Sarah: Let me guess what you played. Trumpet?
Michael: Nope. Tuba! Our family also enjoys watching the New York City Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Sarah: Tuba? That’s impressive! Well, wish you guys a beautiful Thanksgiving!
Michael: Thanks! Same to your family!
