1. Abortion Issue Leads to Reversal in Bipartisan Polls for Democrats and Republicans
According to a series of recent polls, the public stalemate over abortion rights is beginning to appear to break the ice. Over time, the post-Dobbs polls have made it increasingly clear that the American public’s attitude toward abortion is beginning to shift, with support for legal abortion rights gradually beginning to rise to about 60%. While the strong support of Democratic voters for abortion rights is of course the central driving factor, the shift in attitudes among independents is still a shift that cannot be ignored.
The biggest consequence of the Dobbs decision is that it has angered Democratic and liberal voters who were previously negative about the midterm elections. In particular, women and young voters who place a high value on abortion rights were deeply irritated by the Dobbs case, and potential voters who may not have been willing to become deeply involved in politics or make abortion a major voting consideration. At the same time, Republican voters did not appear to be motivated to vote because they “won”.
2. Democratic and Republican parties are in a white-hot battle, and the mid-term elections are more variable.
As we all know, since the first half of this year, because of the new crown epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and other multiple causes, the United States entered a long period of hyperinflation. In particular, soaring oil prices have put Biden under very high political pressure. In order to prevent further deterioration of the inflation problem, the anti-inflationary measures taken by the Federal Reserve such as raising interest rates made the already fragile U.S. economy due to the epidemic and the tight supply chain appear to be in recession in terms of GDP statistics.
However, since the second half of the year, on the one hand, with the efforts of many parties, the prices of a group of livelihood goods represented by oil prices have been reduced, and although the core inflation rate is still high, the public perception has improved, on the other hand, the abortion issue has filled Democratic voters and independents with anger, which has become an important helping factor. According to the polling data, Biden’s support rate has rebounded significantly, reaching close to 45%, while Trump’s support rate has been declining.
3. Biden Speaks Out on New Coronary Pneumonia Pandemic
In an interview on “60 Minutes” on Sept. 18, President Biden said the New Crown pandemic is over.
“The pandemic is over,” he said. “We still have the problem of the New Coronavirus. We’re still doing a lot of work. But the pandemic is over. If you pay a little attention, you’ll see that no one is wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in good shape, so I think things are changing, and I think the Detroit Auto Show being back after three years is a good example of that.”
However, Biden’s remarks come as the current administration under his leadership is seeking an additional $22.4 billion from Congress to continue funding the fight against the new crown. Analysts believe that Biden’s remarks are more in the direction of “ending the alert” and responding to the Newcastle pneumonia outbreak in a normalized manner while restoring social normalcy.
4. Fauci says he doesn’t agree that ‘the new pandemic is over’
Anthony Fauci, Biden’s chief medical adviser, said Monday (Sept. 19), “If we’re going to say ‘living with the virus,’ we’re not as far along as we need to be.”
Fauci said we still have to be aware of how unusual this virus is and its continued ability to evolve into new variants that defy standard public health mechanisms for dealing with outbreaks.”
5. Canada lifts almost all public health entry restrictions related to covid-19 virus
CTV reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has agreed to let the order enforcing COVID-19 vaccination requirements at Canada’s borders expire at the end of this month.
Two senior government sources confirmed to The Canadian Press that after Sept. 30, Canada will eliminate the full vaccination requirement for entry, end random COVID-19 testing at airports and the ArriveCAN APP will no longer be mandatory.
6.Japan to resume visa-free measures for short-stay visitors, lift ban on free travel.
The Japanese government plans to ease the management of ports of entry for the New Crown outbreak in October, restoring it to a level close to that before the outbreak. It will open up the acceptance of free-traveling tourists and allow visa-free short-term stays for visitors from the United States and others. It will also lift the daily cap on the number of arrivals, seeking economic benefits from the spending of foreigners visiting Japan.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will announce these measures in the near future. The exact timing of the relaxation will be determined after observing the epidemic situation in Japan and abroad. Certain conditions such as vaccination will be retained.
Currently, Japan requires all foreigners to obtain a visa to visit Japan and restricts the freedom of foreigners to travel to Japan. If this policy is announced, Japan will remove almost all restrictions on the international movement of people.
7. New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against Trump, his three adult children and the Trump Group, alleging massive fraudulent financial practices and seeking to bar them from real estate transactions for the next five years.
James filed the civil suit alleging that for more than a decade, Trump has engaged in deception, including falsifying billions of dollars in accounts in order to maximize tax avoidance while obtaining favorable strip treatment from banks and insurance companies. James also filed a criminal document with federal prosecutors and a document with the IRS related to tax evasion.
