1. The Fed is considering holding off on the pace of interest rate hikes after the U.S. inflation situation eases.
2.
Senior Fed official, Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank President Bostic (Raphael Bostic) said on November 19 that he is ready to slow down the pace of interest rate hikes and believes the Fed needs to raise interest rates a further 100 basis points to deal with inflation.
Speaking at the Southern Economic Association (SEA) on Saturday, Bostic said, “If the economy develops as I expect it to, I think a further 75-100 basis points of tightening is necessary…I believe that this level of interest rates is sufficient over a reasonable time frame to keep inflation in check.”
Bostic noted, “My basic outlook is that the macroeconomy will be strong enough that we can tighten policy but without causing excessive disruptions in output and employment.”
Recently released U.S. economic data suggest that the inflationary developments in the U.S. are moderating.
2. U.S. technology companies have recently launched layoffs, with several announcing widespread layoffs or suspending hiring.
Amazon (Amazon) announced that it would stop hiring, and Apple (Apple) announced that it would stop hiring in most departments. A number of large technology companies, including Facebook parent Meta and Google parent Alphabet, have suspended hiring in recent months.
Meanwhile, younger tech companies, including payment provider Stripe and online car company Lyft, are making layoffs, with both companies saying the poor economic conditions are increasingly bad for tech companies. More tech layoffs could soon be on the horizon, as Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk laid off 3,700 workers at the social media company on Nov. 4, laying off half of its workforce.
Over the past decade, technology companies have prided themselves on their rapid growth rates while burning through money. But with a global recession looming, the Silicon Valley companies that announced layoffs last week could be a barometer to predict the direction of the overall economy. The duration and severity of this recession may be longer than many expect.
Stripe’s CEO Patrick Collison emailed employees last week to announce 1,000 layoffs. In the email, he said, “2022 is the beginning of a different kind of economic environment.”
3. FTX was run as a “personal fiefdom” by the former CEO, facing hacking and loss of assets
Lawyers working on the cryptocurrency exchange FTX’s bankruptcy case told the company’s first bankruptcy hearing that FTX was run as the “personal fiefdom” of former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, Reuters reported, and they detailed the ongoing challenges the company faced, including hacking and the loss of a large amount of assets. They also detailed the ongoing challenges the company faced, including hacking and the loss of large amounts of assets.
FTX previously filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S., making it the most high-profile cryptocurrency implosion to date, and the collapse of FTX resulted in losses totaling billions of dollars for an estimated 1 million creditors.
A lawyer in the FTX case said at Tuesday’s bankruptcy hearing that the company now intends to sell off healthy business units, but that it has been under cyber attack and has lost a “significant” amount of assets.
FTX said Saturday it has launched a strategic assessment of its global assets and is preparing to sell or restructure some of its businesses. fTX said Tuesday it is receiving interest from potential buyers for its assets and will begin the process of restructuring or selling them.
The hearing was held at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware, and was broadcast live on YouTube and Zoom to an audience of about 1,500 people.
An attorney also said the company had been run as Bankman-Fried’s “personal fiefdom” and spent $300 million on real estate, such as homes and vacation properties for senior staff. Bankman-Fried worked with Bahamian regulators to “sabotage” its U.S. bankruptcy and move assets overseas.

4. Susan Li, a Chinese-American woman who is nearly 36 years old, becomes Meta’s new CFO, inspiring more Chinese to strive for career advancement
Susan was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province and immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was 2 years old. At the age of 11, she was already in high school before her peers were in middle school, and at 15, she was admitted to Stanford University, one of the world’s top schools.

After becoming Meta’s CFO in November, Susan says she is very fortunate to have continued her service with such a world class company.
5. Attention F-1s: Don’t miss the best stage to start your U.S. professional immigration green card application
According to the news from [Little New York U.S. Legal Consulting], some time ago, the U.S. Department of Labor announced the latest U.S. professional immigration PERM labor certification application approval data, in which the proportion of F-1 status direct application for U.S. professional immigration green card has increased significantly, from 6.3% two years ago to 7.1% recently, the number of applicants for U.S. professional immigration in the first two quarters of FY2022 also rose 23.7% over the same period in FY2021. The number of applicants for U.S. professional immigration in the first two quarters of FY2022 is also up 23.7% from the same period in FY2021.
After a short period of low immigration applications caused by the new crown epidemic, the number of applications for U.S. professional immigrant green cards is rising. To a certain extent, this situation can reflect the current strong demand for highly educated and skilled people in the U.S., which is certainly good for foreigners who are looking for long-term opportunities to stay in the U.S. But on the other hand, it also means that people need to wait for a longer waiting period.
The F-1 visa is a general visa for studying and conducting academic research in the U.S. In fact, applying for a green card through the F-1 visa is entirely dependent on the company employer. It really does not matter whether the applicant is in the U.S. or not, and in what visa status they are operating in the U.S.
Therefore, for those who are studying and conducting research activities in the U.S., it is an important path to seek timely opportunities to ask employers for help in applying for professional immigrant visas as well as permanent residency if they wish to stay and live in the U.S. for work and seek further development.
